What is this plan for?

The main goal is to make sure Cambodia’s economy keeps moving forward. Even though the world is facing some tough times and trade arguments, Cambodia expects to grow by about 5.2% next year. This plan is the guide to help us get there.

The Three Big Goals

1. Help Everyone Get Bank Services: The plan wants to make sure that even people in far-away villages or small business owners can easily use a bank or a phone to save and send money.
2. Use New Technology (FinTech): We are using more apps and digital tools to pay for things. The plan focuses on making these tools faster while also making sure they are safe from hackers or scams.
3. Protect the Country’s Future: By having a strong and independent financial system, Cambodia can decide its own future and not have to rely too much on what happens in other countries.

A Brief History: 25 Years of Planning

Cambodia didn’t just start this today. We have been following “roadmaps” like this for 25 years (since 2001). This is the 5th time the plan has been updated to match how the world is changing.

• Past Plans: Helped build the first modern banks in Cambodia.
• Today’s Plan: Focuses on digital money, helping small businesses, and keeping our economy steady even when global prices go up and down.

Who is leading this?

This plan was put together by experts at the National Bank of Cambodia and the Ministry of Economy, with help from the Asian Development Bank. It was officially approved by Prime Minister Hun Manet to ensure it aligns with the country’s long-term goals.

Why should I care?

When the financial system is strong:

• Jobs are created because businesses can get loans to grow.
• Your money is safer in the bank.
• Prices stay more stable, making it easier for families to afford what they need.

H.E. Dr. Chea Chanto, who served as the Member of Parliament for Kampong Thom province and as the Honorary Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia, passed away on October 25, 2024, at the age of 73 due to illness.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his profound condolences over the immense loss, noting that Dr. Chea Chanto’s passing represents the loss of:

• A devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather who exemplified boundless compassion and generosity, providing guidance and education that helped his children and grandchildren become valuable resources for the nation.
• An outstanding senior statesman who dedicated his entire life, energy, intellect, and spirit to actively contributing to the nation’s reconstruction and development.

Specifically, Samdech highlighted Dr. Chea Chanto’s significant achievements in governing, reforming, and elevating several key sectors, including socio-economic planning for poverty reduction and investment promotion in Cambodia. Furthermore, the late Excellency played a crucial role in the modernization and stability of Cambodia’s banking and monetary system up to the present day.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen offered his prayers, dedicating the power of all sacred objects and the virtues of the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha to safeguard the soul of H.E. Dr. Chea Chanto, ensuring his peaceful journey to Nirvana.
