New Digital Tool, Backed by Australia, Makes International Trade Easier for Cambodian Businesses

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – The Ministry of Commerce (MoC) officially launched the Cambodia Free Trade Agreement Portal (Cambodia FTA Portal) today. This new online tool is designed to boost Cambodia’s global trade networks and unlock fresh opportunities for the country’s exports.

The launch ceremony was presided over by H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce, and H.E Derek Yip, the Australian Ambassador to Cambodia, highlighting the strong partnership behind the initiative.

I. Maximizing FTA Benefits Digitally

A Tool for Every Trader

The Cambodia FTA Portal, which was funded by Australian Aid and the CAPRED program, is a digital platform built to simplify international trade. Its main goal is to help users easily find, understand, and get the maximum benefit from all Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) Cambodia is part of.

Through this user-friendly platform, everyone involved in trade—from small business owners to large importers and exporters—can:

Get Clear Knowledge: Learn about all the FTAs Cambodia is a member of (like RCEP, Cambodia-China FTA, etc.).

Understand Export Rules: Quickly grasp the specific requirements and procedures needed to export goods.

Boost Cooperation: Promote trade and strengthen economic cooperation globally.

II. Enhancing Global Competitiveness

Minister Cham Nimul emphasized the national importance of the new portal.

“This platform represents a significant step towards increasing our nation’s global competitiveness and ensuring that all stakeholders, from small businesses to policymakers, have convenient, up-to-date access to vital trade information,” she said.

The Cambodia FTA Portal is a key step in helping local businesses successfully navigate the complex rules of international markets.

Cambodia and Canada have confirmed their commitment to increasing and strengthening their trade cooperation.

Key Trade Talks

This confirmation came during a meeting on November 20th between H.E. Long Kemvichet, Director-General of Cambodia’s General Department of International Trade, and H.E. Ambra Dickie, the Canadian Ambassador to Cambodia.

During the meeting, the two officials shared ideas about the overall trade and investment relationship between the two countries, both directly (bilateral) and within the wider region (regional). They focused especially on the current talks for the ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement (ACAFTA).

Free Trade Agreement on Track

Both sides emphasized that it is important to push the ACAFTA negotiations forward so they can be mostly finished (reach a substantial conclusion) by the 2026 deadline. H.E. Long Kemvichet repeated that Cambodia fully supports the continued progress of these trade talks.

Future Areas of Collaboration

Additionally, the two countries discussed several important areas where they could work together more closely, including:

Trade

Food Security (ensuring reliable food supply)

E-commerce (online business)

Energy

Digitalisation (making things digital)

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The goal is to deepen their collaboration in these sectors and find more opportunities to work together both between the two nations and across the ASEAN region.
