If no unexpected developments occur, the soldiers will cross the border and reunite with their families at noon on December 30, 2025.

The Fruits of the Yunnan Trilateral Summit

This breakthrough is a direct result of the high-level trilateral meeting held in China’s Yunnan Province. Over the past two days, H.E. Prak Sokhonn negotiated alongside China’s H.E. Wang Yi and Thailand’s H.E. Sihasak Phuangketkeow to secure the soldiers’ release.

“We have made all necessary preparations,” stated the Cambodian top diplomat. “This is the outcome of the meeting held over the past two days… so they can safely return home and reunite with their families.”

Coordinated Repatriation with the ICRC

To ensure a transparent and safe return, the Thai government has already notified the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The ICRC will act as a neutral coordinator to facilitate the repatriation process and ensure the welfare of the 18 soldiers, who have spent 153 consecutive days in detention.
