The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training (MoLVT) and the World Bank (WB) met in Phnom Penh on October 28 to discuss immediate and medium-term support for Cambodian nationals returning from Thailand. The core focus of the exchange was facilitating jobs placement and skills integration for these returnees.

The discussion involved H.E. Heng Sour, Cambodian Minister of MoLVT, and Ms. Tania Meyer, WB Country Manager for Cambodia.

Alignment with Government Priorities

H.E. Heng Sour expressed his high appreciation for the World Bank’s robust partnership in developing human capital, jobs, and skills. He noted that the discussion aligns perfectly with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s (RGC) top priorities concerning employment, the labour market, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and inclusive growth. The Minister specifically recognized the WB’s long-standing collaboration with MoLVT, particularly through the successful Cambodia Skills for Better Jobs program.

World Bank Reaffirms Support

In response, Ms. Tania Meyer commended the RGC’s dedication to human resource development. She reaffirmed the World Bank’s unwavering support for Cambodia’s initiatives aimed at enhancing workforce development and overall competitiveness.

Both parties concluded the meeting by agreeing to continue strengthening their crucial partnership to drive Cambodia’s socio-economic development forward.
