Hosted in Yunnan Province under the coordination of H.E. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, the meeting marks a historic step in resolving border differences through peaceful dialogue and mutual respect.

A Triumph of Peaceful Negotiation

This trilateral summit is a testament to the Royal Government of Cambodia’s commitment to maintaining national sovereignty while fostering good neighborly relations. Key highlights of the meeting include:

Constructive Mediation: The active role of the People’s Republic of China in facilitating this dialogue underscores the deep “Ironclad Friendship” between Phnom Penh and Beijing.

Commitment to De-escalation: Both Cambodia and Thailand reaffirmed their commitment to the recently signed ceasefire, ensuring the safety and return of displaced civilians to the border regions.

Technical Cooperation: The ministers discussed the upcoming JBC meeting in Siem Reap (scheduled for January 2026), which will focus on technical land demarcation using modern technology.

Upholding the Spirit of Peace

Under the wise leadership of Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Cambodia continues to demonstrate that diplomacy is the most powerful tool for protecting territorial integrity. By choosing the path of negotiation over conflict, the Royal Government has ensured that the “Border of Peace, Friendship, and Development” remains a reality for the Cambodian people.

“Peace is our shared aspiration. Through dialogue and mutual respect, we are building a stable future for the next generation.” — Extract from the Diplomatic Sentiment of the Meeting.

This meeting, set against the backdrop of the rugged Yunnan landscape, underscores the deep-rooted solidarity between the two nations and China’s expanding role as a stabilizer in Southeast Asia.

The Peace Dividend: China’s Role in the Border Ceasefire

The core of the discussions focused on the fragile Cambodia-Thailand ceasefire, which went into effect on December 26.

Mediation Efforts: H.E. Prak Sokhonn expressed profound gratitude for China’s “active and constructive” mediation, which included shuttle diplomacy and hosting these trilateral talks.

Humanitarian Support: In a significant show of support, Minister Wang Yi pledged 20 million yuan ($2.8 million) in emergency humanitarian aid. The first batch—including tents, blankets, and food—arrived in Cambodia today to assist the nearly 1 million civilians displaced by the recent border clashes.

The Way Forward: Both ministers agreed that the ceasefire is merely the first step. They emphasized that long-term peace requires “dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect” to rebuild trust between Phnom Penh and Bangkok.
