Phnom Penh, October 31, 2025 —
President of the Senate of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, received a courtesy visit from Tan Sri Michael Yeoh, Chairman of the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia-Pacific, and his delegation this afternoon, according to Senate Spokesperson Chea Thirith.

At the start of the meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen warmly welcomed Tan Sri Michael Yeoh and his delegation to Cambodia, expressing pleasure at their visit and participation in the 2025 World Green & Sustainability Summit, which Cambodia is hosting this year.

The Senate President noted that this was a renewed meeting and expressed hope that the delegation could witness firsthand the ongoing development and progress across Cambodia.

KSI Commends Cambodia’s Steady Development

During the courtesy call, Tan Sri Michael Yeoh expressed deep appreciation to Samdech Techo Hun Sen for granting the audience, highlighting that his delegation — composed of KSI researchers and policy strategists — highly valued the opportunity to listen to Samdech Techo’s insights and perspectives on national and regional development.

He also praised Cambodia’s continued socio-economic progress under Hun Sen’s leadership and its smooth transition to the new generation of leaders, noting that the country has remained stable and dynamic in its growth.

Tan Sri Michael Yeoh added that he was particularly interested in Samdech Techo’s views on development strategy, sustainability, and environmental protection, recognizing Cambodia’s active role in contributing to climate change mitigation and green initiatives both regionally and globally.

Hun Sen Highlights Cambodia’s Environmental Commitment

Samdech Techo Hun Sen, in turn, spoke about the role of KSI Asia-Pacific in promoting strategic cooperation and policy sharing for regional development and environmental protection.

He shared insights into Cambodia’s national development strategy, emphasizing the balance between growth and sustainability. Hun Sen also underlined Cambodia’s participation in global environmental efforts, stating:

“Whether big or small, every country shares a responsibility in protecting our planet and reducing global climate change.”

The Senate President cited recent examples of Cambodia’s environmental contributions — notably the growing public interest in electric vehicles (EVs) in Phnom Penh, which he described as part of Cambodia’s transition toward clean energy adoption and pollution reduction.

Cambodia’s Active Role in ASEAN and the UN

Hun Sen further highlighted Cambodia’s ongoing efforts as a member of ASEAN and the United Nations, stressing the country’s active participation in promoting green growth and environmental cooperation across the region and beyond.

The meeting concluded with Tan Sri Michael Yeoh expressing gratitude for Hun Sen’s thoughtful reflections, describing them as “highly meaningful and valuable” contributions to KSI’s ongoing research and regional policy dialogues.

He said the insights shared by Samdech Techo Hun Sen would serve as an important reference for future research papers and discussions on sustainable development and strategic cooperation.
