Cambodia Condemns Thai Military Action After Five Civilians Injured

The Ministry of National Defence in Cambodia has strongly spoken out against the Thai military for shooting at Cambodian civilians, which resulted in five people getting hurt.

Initial reports from local officials say that the shooting happened around 3:50 PM in Prey Chan village, which is in O’Chrov district of Banteay Meanchey province.

Lieutenant General Maly Socheata, the Ministry of National Defence Spokeswoman, stated this evening that this attack came after several recent aggressive moves by the Thai military that seemed intended to provoke conflict.

Violation of Peace Agreement

Cambodia’s Ministry strongly condemned the action, calling it cruel and inhumane. They pointed out that this attack clearly breaks the Joint Declaration on the Peace Deal—a major agreement signed by the Prime Ministers of both Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025. This declaration was witnessed by major international figures, including the President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Malaysia (who also chairs ASEAN).

Because of this violation, Cambodia is asking the international community to strongly condemn Thailand for repeatedly breaking the agreements and to make Thailand fully responsible for these illegal actions.

The Ministry has called on Thailand to immediately stop all fighting and actions that threaten the peace and stability of the region. They insist that Thailand must fully and sincerely respect the ceasefire agreement, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Deal, and all other rules under international law.

Lieutenant General Maly Socheata reaffirmed Cambodia’s position: “Cambodia is firmly committed to respecting and carrying out the peace deal and all previous agreements we have made with Thailand.” She concluded by stating, “Cambodia believes in solving disagreements peacefully, following international law and treaties. We are against the threat or use of force and seek a fair, long-term solution that follows all global rules.”
