Cambodian Prime Minister Calls for International Investigation into Thai Military Attack

The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, is demanding an independent investigation into today’s attacks by the Thai military on Cambodian civilians. He wants foreign experts to be involved to find the truth and make sure the victims get justice.

The Prime Minister made this strong appeal on social media this evening, firmly condemning the violence used against innocent Cambodian people in Prey Chan village.

Breaking the Rules

He stressed that this action goes against basic humanitarian principles and breaks past agreements the two countries made to solve border issues peacefully. Specifically, it violates the agreement that allowed the Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) to work on surveying and placing temporary border markers while maintaining the existing situation until the work is finished.

Prime Minister Hun Manet stated, “I urge the Thai side to immediately stop using force against innocent Cambodian civilians in Prey Chan village, as well as using any kind of violence to solve border issues between our two countries.”

At the same time, he has ordered local authorities and relevant security forces to take urgent steps to protect and ensure the safety of the citizens in the area.

Commitment to Peace

The Prime Minister confirmed that Cambodia remains fully committed to resolving the issue peacefully. He cited the spirit of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, signed on October 26, 2025, which aims to end conflict and build lasting peace between Cambodia and Thailand.

According to the Ministry of National Defence, the situation is serious:

  • At about 3:50 PM this afternoon, the Thai military reportedly opened fire on Cambodian civilians in Prey Chan village, Banteay Meanchey province.
  • The assault reportedly started again at 5:54 PM and military activity was still happening as of this evening.
  • Initial reports indicated that three civilians were injured, and one was killed in the attack.
