Hun Sen Bids Farewell to Austrian Ambassador, Discusses Trade

This morning, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate, received a farewell visit from H.E. Wehelm Maximilian Donko, the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Cambodia, at the Senate Palace in Phnom Penh.

According to Senate Spokesperson H.E. Chea Thyrith, the meeting was held in a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Appreciation for Strong Ties

Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for his significant work during his time in Cambodia. He emphasized that the Ambassador’s efforts had successfully strengthened the relationship between Cambodia and Austria.

For his part, Ambassador Donko highlighted the strong and growing ties between the two nations. He praised Cambodia’s remarkable progress in recent years, including the fast growth of modern buildings and infrastructure.

The Ambassador also highlighted Austria’s key areas of cooperation with Cambodia, such as demining (clearing landmines) and supporting the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), which is the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.

Focus on Future Trade and Investment

The Ambassador expressed his hope that trade between the two countries would continue to grow. He announced that Austrian investors are planning to visit Cambodia next month to look for new business opportunities.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen thanked Austria for its continued support in vital areas like demining and judicial cooperation. He encouraged both countries to further improve their economic, trade, and investment relations. He also expressed interest in deepening political cooperation, particularly between the two countries’ foreign ministries.
