Cambodia is very serious about fighting online scams, a commitment H.E. Santepundit Chhay Sinarith, who leads the group fighting these scams (CCOS), strongly confirmed.
Cambodia’s Commitment
In a recent important meeting (on November 19th) with Mr. Niu Haifeng, a high-ranking official from China’s Ministry of Public Security, H.E. Sinarith stressed that Cambodia’s government is absolutely determined to stop these crimes. He pointed out that their recent police actions have been very successful and have made a clear difference.
The Senior Minister emphasized that working closely and building trust with international partners is key to handling this complicated global problem. He said that better teamwork is vital for reaching the shared goal of defeating cybercrime and technology-based fraud.
China’s View and Appreciation
In return, Mr. Niu Haifeng praised the Cambodian authorities for their fast and helpful cooperation during recent joint operations. He specifically thanked them for successfully catching and sending back Chinese citizens involved in the scams and for safely handing over important proof needed for ongoing legal cases in China.
Mr. Niu Haifeng also highly commended Cambodia for setting up its anti-scam commission, the CCOS. This group was created directly under the leadership of the Cambodian Prime Minister, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, and has made noticeable progress quickly after the Prime Minister issued national instructions.
The Path Forward
The two officials finished the meeting by agreeing on specific ways to improve their cooperation between the two countries and with other nations. This includes focused programs to build skills (capacity-building) and share experiences. All these steps aim for the same big goal: to make their combined, cross-border efforts against technology-based fraud much more effective.
