Cambodia Takes Presidency of Francophonie Conference

H.E. PRAK Sokhonn, Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, recently attended a ceremony in Kigali, Rwanda, where the Presidency of the Ministerial Conference of La Francophonie (CMF) was officially handed over.

Acknowledging Efforts

During the ceremony on November 20th, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his sincere thanks to:

  • Rwanda, for hosting the recent event.
  • France, for serving as the President of the 46th Conference.
  • H.E. Ms. Louise MUSHIKIWABO, the Secretary General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), for her tireless work in fulfilling her duties.

Cambodia’s Commitment

H.E. PRAK Sokhonn used the occasion to announce Cambodiaโ€™s key goals as the next President of the 47th Ministerial Conference and the host of the major 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026. He confirmed Cambodia’s commitment to successfully organizing both these important events.

The Francophonie Summit is a prestigious opportunity to showcase Cambodiaโ€™s cultural heritage and its dedication to the values shared by French-speaking nations around the world.

Understanding La Francophonie

  • The Summit: The Francophonie Summit is the highest-level meeting of the organization, held every two years, and brings together the Heads of State (Presidents/Prime Ministers) from all member countries.
  • History: The International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) was officially created on March 20, 1970. Cambodia first joined as an observer in 1991 and became a full member in 1993.
  • Membership: Today, the OIF is a large global body with 93 member states in total, including 56 full members.
