DPM Hun Many: Unity Front is Key to Cambodia’s Rebuilding & Leadership

Hun Many: Unity Front Key to Nation Building on 47th Anniversary

Deputy Prime Minister Hun Many this morning highlighted the enduring historical significance of the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodian Motherland (SFDCM). He asserted that the organizationโ€”originally the Kampuchean United Front for National Salvation (KUFNS)โ€”established the crucial foundation for rebuilding Cambodian society and shaping the nation’s political leadership after decades of turmoil.

47th Anniversary: A Pivotal Turning Point in Cambodian History

Speaking at a ceremony marking the 47th anniversary of the Front’s establishment, DPM Hun Many characterized the formation as a pivotal turning point in Cambodian history. He emphasized its necessity for national liberation and survival, and for laying the robust groundwork for long-term social reconstruction and effective national governance.

The Patriotic Coalition Against Genocide

The original movement was created through the collective solidarity of Cambodian patriots, both domestically and internationally. It was led by key national figures, including Samdech Heng Samrin, Samdech Chea Sim, and Samdech Hun Sen. This patriotic coalition was instrumental in mobilizing resistance against the genocidal Pol Pot regime, a campaign that culminated in the regime’s eventual overthrow on Jan. 7, 1979 (Victory Day).

Strategic Framework for National Reconstruction

In his address, the Deputy Prime Minister declared that the Frontโ€™s establishment and its comprehensive political programme constitute a major historical milestone. He argued that beyond securing national liberation, the Front provided a clear strategic and political framework necessary for reconstructing the country after years of devastating conflict.

Following the Jan. 7 victory, the organization worked closely with the state to cement national unity, prevent any resurgence of genocidal forces, and restore the socio-economic fundamentals. These efforts critically focused on rebuilding livelihoods and ensuring the survival of a population whose social fabric had been virtually annihilated.

“Grounded in the strength of national unity, Cambodia successfully ensured the rebirth of the nation and guided society out of extreme hardship toward gradual and sustained development, leading to the progress we see today,” the Deputy Prime Minister stated.

A Call for Steadfast Unity and National Service

Concluding his remarks, H.E. Hun Many urged all Front members to steadfastly uphold unity and internal cohesion, remain dedicated to patriotism, strengthen their bonds with the populace, and devote their energy to national service. He specifically called on them to faithfully implement the resolutions passed at the Frontโ€™s Sixth National Congress and the policies of the Royal Government.

He underscored that these core principles represent the Front’s enduring mission and unchanging ideal in advancing Cambodiaโ€™s ongoing national development.
