In the dialogue, Ambassador Keo spoke highly of the good partnership between the Royal Government of Cambodia and the UN. He underscored the UN’s critical role in supporting Cambodia’s ongoing efforts to advance the SDGs.

Preparing for Smooth Transition out of LDC Status by 2029

Ambassador Keo specifically highlighted the UN’s assistance in preparing the country’s Smooth Transition Strategy. This strategy is crucial for Cambodia’s planned graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDCs) category by 2029.

Three Priority Areas for Enhanced UN-Cambodia Cooperation

Ambassador Keo also encouraged the UN Resident Coordinator and the UN Country Team to further enhance cooperation with Cambodia in three priority areas:

Focus on Sustainable Financing and Digital Governance

  1. Sustainable Financing and Capacity-Building: Support countries preparing for LDC graduation through stable funding and better training.
  2. Integrated Approaches: Strengthen climate resilience and digital governance using combined strategies.

  1. Stronger UN System Coherence: Ensure effective resource mobilisation by making the UN system work together seamlessly.
