NEW YORK, December 18, 2025 โ At a high-level plenary meeting held at the United Nations Headquarters, H.E. Ambassador Keo Chhea, Permanent Representative of Cambodia to the UN, delivered a powerful statement reinforcing the Kingdomโs stance on global governance. The meeting was held to commemorate the 65th Anniversary of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples.

Presided over by H.E. Ms. Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, the event served as a platform for nations to reflect on the progress of decolonization and the enduring importance of national sovereignty.
Peaceful Settlement and Cambodia’s Commitment to the UN Charter
During his address, Ambassador Keo Chhea emphasized that Cambodia’s commitment to the UN Charter is the cornerstone of its foreign policy. He reiterated that the Kingdom strictly adheres to the principles of international law, particularly in the face of rising regional and global tensions.
The Ambassador highlighted several key pillars of Cambodiaโs diplomatic mission:
- Respect for Sovereignty: Upholding the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of all states, regardless of size.
- Peaceful Dispute Resolution: Advocating for the settlement of conflicts through dialogue and legal mechanisms rather than military force.
- Multilateralism: Supporting a rules-based international order to ensure peace and justice for all nations.
Foundational Principles for National Development
H.E. Keo Chhea underscored that these international commitments are not merely symbolic. Cambodia’s commitment to the UN Charter is fundamentally linked to the countryโs internal development goals. By ensuring a stable and predictable international environment, Cambodia can continue its journey toward its vision of becoming a high-income nation by 2050.
“These principles are essential to the collective pursuit of peace,” the Ambassador stated, calling on the international community to redouble efforts in protecting the core values of the United Nations.
