The Minister also urged the company to accelerate the construction of the connecting road to National Road No. 1 and to enhance safety measures, particularly stressing the need for additional air lifting bags to ensure waterway safety during the rainy season.

The $60-million project, funded by a concessional loan from China, officially broke ground on February 19, 2024, under the presidency of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet. Spanning 845.7 meters long and 27 meters wide, the bridge is on track for completion by early 2028.

Once operational, the Chak Angre Krom–Prek Pra Bridge is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion on the Preah Monivong Bridges and improve logistics efficiency across Phnom Penh. The new bridge will also enhance connectivity in the southern part of the capital, including access to Techo International Airport, which will contribute to the region’s overall development.

This project will mark the seventh bridge to cross the Bassac River, joining Koh Pich–Koh Norea, Preah Monivong 1, Preah Monivong 2, Samrong, Koh Anlong Chin, and Koh Thom bridges.
