US President Trump to Attend Cambodia-Thailand Peace Deal Signing at ASEAN Summit

KUALA LUMPUR — On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan announced that U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to travel to Malaysia on October 26, 2025, to attend the signing ceremony of a peace agreement between Cambodia and Thailand during the ASEAN Summit event. This was reported by news agencies AFP and Reuters on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

Mr. Mohamad continued that Malaysia, alongside the United States, will co-mediate the aforementioned agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, which will require both sides to clear mines and withdraw all heavy weaponry from the border area.

According to the Malaysian Foreign Minister, the signing ceremony for the agreement will take place during the ASEAN leaders’ summit, scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur from October 26 to October 28, 2025.

Mr. Mohamad told reporters: “During the ASEAN Summit, we hope that the signing of an agreement, called the Kuala Lumpur Agreement, between the two neighboring countries will ensure a long-lasting ceasefire and peace.”

It should be noted that tensions over the border issue between Cambodia and Thailand escalated into deadly armed clashes lasting five days last July, before a ceasefire was initiated by President Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the current ASEAN rotating chair.
