Police Smash Kidnapping and Extortion Ring in Bavet, 8 Arrested

Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia โ€“ Authorities successfully cracked down on a major kidnapping and extortion ring in Bavet City. Police officials from the Criminal Department of the National Police General Commission (Ministry of Interior), in collaboration with the Svay Rieng Provincial Police Commissioner, arrested a total of eight suspects on the night of December 3, 2025.

Multi-National Suspects Detained

The suspects detained included two Chinese nationals and six Burmese nationals. The operation focused on a case involving kidnapping, confinement, and extortion.

Rescue Operation Frees Six Chinese Victims

During the swift operation, authorities successfully rescued six victims, all identified as Chinese nationals.

Tools of Torture Seized by Authorities

Police also confiscated a vehicle used by the suspects during the crime, along with various implements used to inflict torture upon the victims. The successful arrest and rescue operation highlights the authorities’ commitment to tackling transnational crime within the province.
