Cambodia and Belgium Vow to Elevate Cooperation; Discuss Francophonie Summit 2026

PHNOM PENHH.E. NONG Sakal, Under-Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC), received a courtesy call this morning from H.E. Michel PARYS, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to the Kingdom of Cambodia (with residence in Bangkok).

Elevating Bilateral Ties

According to the MFAIC, the two diplomats exchanged views on the significant progress made in Cambodia-Belgium bilateral relations and cooperation. They specifically highlighted advancements in the critical areas of health, education, and mine clearance, in addition to successful multilateral cooperation efforts.

Both sides strongly reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and Belgium to an even higher level.

Francophonie Summit and Regional Diplomacy

The discussion also covered general information regarding the upcoming Francophonie Summit, which Cambodia will proudly host in 2026. A high-level Belgian delegation is expected to participate in the major event.

Furthermore, H.E. NONG Sakal used the opportunity to brief the Belgian Ambassador on the latest developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border. The briefing focused particularly on the implementation status of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, signed by the Prime Ministers of Cambodia and Thailand on October 26, 2025.
