H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, has shared some good news about Cambodia’s economy. He confirmed that even with challenges happening around the world, the economy is expected to keep growing steadily in 2026, reaching about 5 percent growth.

The Minister shared this forecast at a workshop in the National Assembly on November 10, where officials were planning how to set the budget for 2026.

Why is the Economy Growing?

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that major international groups like the IMF, World Bank, and ADB also predict strong growth, estimating Cambodia’s economic expansion will be around 4.8 to 4.9 percent in 2025.

He said this growth is thanks to strong performance in three main areas:

  • Industry (like manufacturing and factories)
  • Services (like tourism and hotels)
  • Agriculture (farming)

Top Goals for the 2026 Budget

The government has five main things it wants to focus on with the 2026 budget:

  1. Keep the Peace and Stability: Making sure the country is safe and the economy remains steady.
  2. Invest in People: Improving education and training for people, and making government institutions better.
  3. Encourage New Ideas: Boosting competition by supporting technology and digital advancements.
  4. Spend Money Wisely: Making sure the government collects money better and spends it more effectively.
  5. Help Those Who Need It: Expanding support programs for people in need.

Big Plans for Cambodia’s Future

Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth confirmed that the government, led by Prime Minister Hun Manet, is fully committed to making major improvements in key areas like public administration, health, education, and the legal system.

He explained that these changes are crucial for achieving Cambodiaโ€™s long-term goals: becoming an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050.

The Minister emphasized that the 2026 budget isn’t just about money; itโ€™s a roadmap for steady and inclusive growth for everyone. He concluded, “With smart management and continued improvements, Cambodia will stay on track toward lasting peace and prosperity.”
