Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, met with her French counterpart, Hon. Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly of the French Republic, on Wednesday in Paris, on the sidelines of the 8th Edition of the Paris Peace Forum.
During the meeting, Samdech Sudary updated President Braun-Pivet on the recent Cambodia-Thailand Peace Agreement, which was signed by both Prime Ministers on October 26, 2025, during the 47th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia.
“Cambodia is a peace-loving nation,” Samdech Sudary affirmed, stressing that the agreement is of great significance because Cambodia, having suffered immensely from decades of conflict, “does not wish to see war or conflict.”
France’s Role in Border Demarcation and Digitalization
Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed sincere gratitude to France for its sustained technical support, particularly the provision of border maps. She highlighted that the Franco-Siamese Treaties of 1904 and 1907 serve as the legal framework for the ongoing border demarcation efforts.
In terms of parliamentary cooperation, she praised France’s support for the ongoing Digital Parliament Project, which is modernizing Cambodia’s legislature and advancing its transformation into a full-fledged E-Parliament. Samdech Sudary emphasized that this digital leap is vital for improving public services, strengthening transparency and accountability, and promoting good governance.

French Support for Peace and Francophonie
Hon. Yaël Braun-Pivet congratulated Cambodia on successfully achieving the peace deal with Thailand, recognizing it as an important step toward restoring peace and normalcy between the two nations.
She also commended Cambodia’s proactive preparations to host the 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026. President Braun-Pivet informed her Cambodian counterpart that the French National Assembly has established a working group to ensure the summit’s success, emphasizing the belief that “Francophonie does not belong to any single country, but to all its members collectively.” She added that the community must continue to cooperate closely across various sectors, including education, culture, economy, and environment.
The meeting concluded with Samdech Khuon Sudary extending a cordial invitation to Hon. Yaël Braun-Pivet to lead a French National Assembly delegation on an official visit to Cambodia, with the aim of further strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two legislatures and nations.
