Top Ministers Meet Students to Discuss Cambodia’s Future Reforms

Cambodia Ministers Detail Justice and Energy Reforms

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, H.E. Koeut Rith, along with the Minister of Mines and Energy, H.E. Keo Rattanak, recently met with students at the National University of Law and Economics (RULE). This important meeting focused on the government’s core plans for national reform (making major improvements).

Engaging the Next Generation

The event acted as a chance for the next generation—around 350 students, plus university leaders and professors—to talk directly with key decision-makers.

Focus on Justice Reform

Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Koeut Rith gave a talk titled: “Key Priority Tasks for Judicial Reform.” He emphasized that improving the legal and court system (judicial reform) is a foundational policy for the current government. He stated that this reform is absolutely essential for strengthening the rule of law (making sure everyone respects and follows the laws) across the country.

He highlighted the government’s firm commitment to developing the people who work in the justice sector based on meritocracy (hiring and promoting based on skill and talent, not connections).

The Justice Minister summarized their strategic approach: “giving responsible roles to capable people, and giving those responsible people the necessary training and skills.”

In his final message, the Deputy Prime Minister encouraged the students to play a key role in promoting a culture of lawfulness by actively sharing and teaching legal knowledge in their local communities.

Focus on Energy and Resources

Minister H.E. Keo Rattanak followed with a presentation on the “Reform Directions for Cambodia’s Mines and Energy Sector.” He explained that his ministry oversees three crucial areas: oil and gas, minerals, and energy.

Minister Rattanak informed the attendees about the government’s continuous work to ensure these resources are developed in a sustainable way (using them wisely for the long term) while protecting the important goal of national energy security (making sure the country always has enough power).

Questions and Answers

The event ended with a lively question-and-answer session, where students could ask both ministers directly about government operations, current reforms, and plans for the country’s future development.
