Cambodia-Thailand Border Talks Yield Positive Outcomes

Cambodia-Thailand Border Cooperation Strengthened

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet welcomed the positive outcomes of the Extraordinary Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting held between Cambodia’s Military Region 5 and Thailand’s Military Region 1 on Friday, August 22.

Samdech Thipadei shared the updates via his social media, emphasizing the importance of continued dialogue to maintain peace and stability along the shared border.

The Ministry of National Defence reported that the extraordinary RBC meeting took place on August 22, 2025, in Sa Kaeo Province, Thailand. The Cambodian delegation was led by Lieutenant General Ek Sam Aun, Commander of Military Region 5, while the Thai delegation was led by Lieutenant General Amarit Boonsuya, Commander of Military Region 1. Both served as co-chairmen of the meeting.

The meeting concluded successfully at 11:15 a.m., with both sides reaffirming their strong commitment to implementing the ceasefire and the 13-point consensus. These agreements aim to restore normalcy in border areas and further strengthen Cambodia-Thailand bilateral relations.

Both Cambodia and Thailand expressed their dedication to maintaining stability in the border regions. The RBC meeting also highlighted the importance of mutual understanding, dialogue, and cooperation between the two military regions to prevent conflicts and misunderstandings.

The two sides agreed to hold the next Regional Border Affairs Committee meeting within one month of the extraordinary session or at a convenient time, with Cambodia serving as the host. This step ensures the continuity of communication and effective border management.

The RBC meetings have long served as an essential platform for Cambodia and Thailand to discuss border security, peacekeeping, and regional development. The outcomes of the August 22 meeting demonstrate the commitment of both nations to collaborate for the well-being of communities living in border areas.

Prime Minister Hun Manet’s endorsement of the meeting results underscores Cambodia’s dedication to strengthening diplomatic and military ties with Thailand, promoting regional stability, and fostering trust between the two nations.
