PREY VENG PROVINCE, Cambodia โ€“ Cambodia and Vietnam officially inaugurated the Muen Chey-Tan Nam International Border Gate this morning. This new vital crossing, connecting Cambodiaโ€™s Prey Veng province with Vietnamโ€™s Tay Ninh province, marks a significant milestone in strengthening regional trade, tourism, and bilateral cooperation.

The inauguration ceremony, held in Prey Veng, was presided over by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and his Vietnamese counterpart, H.E. Pham Minh Chinh.

I. Transforming Borders into Economic Hubs

Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized that the event showcases the deep solidarity, traditional friendship, and mutual trust shared by the two nations. He noted that the joint efforts have successfully transformed shared border areas into peaceful zones that actively facilitate economic activities and improve livelihoods for citizens on both sides.

โ€œI believe that this new international border gate will strongly support the development and well-being of the people of both sides, particularly the provinces of Prey Veng and Tay Ninh, through enhanced trade, tourism, and security,โ€ the Prime Minister underscored.

II. Deepening Connectivity and Trade Targets

Connectivity and the $20 Billion Goal

For his part, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highlighted that the new border gate represents another strategic step toward deeper connectivity between Cambodia and Vietnam. He affirmed that the robust bilateral relations continue to expand, with both countries working closely for shared development.

Prime Minister Chinh also tied the new crossing directly to ambitious trade targets: “This new border gate will further contribute to our shared goal of achieving US$20 billion in bilateral trade in the future.โ€

III. Strong Bilateral Trade Growth

Exports Lead the Way

Economic data underscores the success of the existing partnership:

  • Total Trade: During the first ten months of 2025, bilateral trade between Cambodia and Vietnam reached US$6.58 billion, showing a steady increase of 2.61 percent year-on-year.
  • Export Strength: Cambodiaโ€™s exports performed particularly well, reaching US$3.14 billion (a significant increase of 5.88 percent). Imports saw a slight decline of 0.21 percent, valued at US$3.44 billion.
