TIANJIN, CHINA — Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping has pledged 20 million yuan (approximately US$2.8 million) in humanitarian assistance to Cambodia. The aid is intended to help repair damage and alleviate the suffering of people affected by the recent armed conflict with Thailand in late July.
The announcement was made during a bilateral meeting between President Xi and Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet on August 30, held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Plus 2025 Summit.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister’s Spokesperson H.E. Meas Sophorn confirmed the pledge, adding that President Xi also reaffirmed China’s support for the ceasefire between Cambodian and Thai forces. The Chinese president further expressed his backing for the ASEAN ceasefire observation mechanism, led by Malaysia, and called for the swift establishment of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).
In addition to the immediate humanitarian aid, President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Cambodia’s efforts to enhance its self-reliance, development capacity, and national sovereignty.
