Celebrating the 18th Anniversary of Preah Vihear Temple’s Inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Phnom Penh: July 7, 2026, marks the 18th anniversary (July 7, 2008 – July 7, 2026) of the Preah Vihear Temple’s official inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Perched majestically atop the Dangrek Mountains in northern Cambodia, Preah Vihear Temple stands as a masterpiece of Khmer architecture. Dedicated to the mountain deities “Shikhareshvara and Bhadresvara,” the temple’s historical significance traces back to the era of King Jayavarman II, with construction initiated by Prince Indrayadha. Over generations, eight Khmer monarchs contributed to the building of this sacred site, solidifying its place as a symbol of Cambodian history and devotion.

As we commemorate this milestone, we are reminded that safeguarding our rich cultural heritage remains a shared responsibility and a profound duty for every Cambodian citizen.
