Senate President Cancels All Official Engagements to Join Prime Minister in Direct Command of Armed Forces
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia โ Responding to the sustained military escalation and repeated attacks along the Cambodia-Thailand border, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate and Chairman of the Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, issued an urgent statement via his social media channel today, directing all frontline military personnel to maintain maximum restraint.

I. Command for Restraint to Protect Peace Agreements
Samdech Techo emphasized that the continuous shelling by the “invading forces” (referring to the Thai military), which has occurred since yesterday, last night, and this morning using all types of weapons, has a clear strategic goal:
โAll frontline forces must exercise restraint because the invading forces are using all types of weapons to shoot at us… with the aim of provoking us to retaliate, thereby destroying the ceasefire and the Cambodia-Thailand Peace Declaration.โ
He ordered commanders at all levels to educate and ensure all officers and enlisted personnel fully understand this strategy. Samdech Techo confirmed that โThe red line that requires retaliation has already been defined,โ indicating military readiness, but the decision remains under strict control.
II. Canceling Engagements for Direct Command
To demonstrate the gravity of the national security situation and his direct involvement, Samdech Techo announced the cancellation of all previous commitments:
โI have cancelled all other work programs to join the Prime Minister in commanding the armed forces to confront the invasion.โ
This action underscores the unified leadership structure of Cambodia in defending national sovereignty and deterring aggression. Samdech Techo also requested the understanding of both national and international guests whom he will be unable to meet during this critical time.
III. Appeals to Authorities and Encouraging Athletes
- Civilian Support: Samdech Techo appealed to authorities at all levels to actively assist citizens displaced by the fighting, ensuring they evacuate from dangerous areas to safe zones.
- Sporting Resilience: Despite the severe tensions, Samdech Techo encouraged Cambodian athletes competing in the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand to participate normally, showcasing Cambodia’s resilience and unwavering spirit.
