Cambodian Acting Head of State, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, held talks this morning with Ms. Bridgette L. Walker, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Cambodia, to reaffirm the strength of ties between the two nations. The meeting coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and the United States.

According to H.E. Chea Thyrith, Spokesperson of the Cambodian Senate, both sides welcomed the positive trajectory of their bilateral partnership. The discussion underscored mutual commitment to maintaining cooperation while addressing regional and bilateral issues of importance.
Border Situation with Thailand Discussed
Samdech Techo Hun Sen raised the ongoing tensions along the Cambodia-Thailand border. He provided an overview of the situation since the ceasefire agreement reached on July 28, which was facilitated by U.S. President Donald Trump.
The Acting Head of State emphasized Cambodia’s desire to normalize border conditions and called for a permanent observer to ensure the ceasefire remains effective. He also expressed concern over recent developments, including incidents affecting civilians and Thailand’s construction of barbed wire fencing in disputed areas.
U.S. Urges ASEAN Observer Team
In response, Ms. Walker confirmed that the U.S. also wishes to see a swift return to normalcy at the border. She reiterated Washington’s position that both Cambodia and Thailand should follow through with their previous agreement to establish an ASEAN Observer Team.
Her remarks highlighted the U.S. commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution and ensuring stability in the border regions.
Issue of Cambodian Migrants Raised
The talks also addressed the deportation of Cambodian migrants from the United States. Ms. Walker raised the matter, acknowledging its sensitivity.
Samdech Techo Hun Sen responded that this was not a new challenge for Cambodia and assured that all returnees would be prioritized upon arrival. He stressed that, regardless of circumstances, Cambodian citizens would always be welcomed and cared for by the Royal Government.
