KRATIE: The Cambodia-China Mekong Kratie Friendship Bridge is scheduled to be officially opened for public use on April 1, 2026. The announcement was made today by H.E. Phan Rim, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT).
Construction Progress Near Completion
As of early November 2025, the construction of the bridge structure itself has reached 98.36 percent completion, while the overall projectโincluding the bridge, connecting roads, and related infrastructureโhas advanced to 87.39 percent.
H.E. Phan Rim specified that the construction company is currently finalizing the remaining works, which include:
- Traffic markings.
- Installation of public lighting poles.
- Connecting the approach roads to the bridge structure.

Key Project Details
The project broke ground on January 2, 2023. The bridge links Talous village of Bos Leav commune in Chetr Borei district with Thmar Reap village of Prek Prasop commune in Prek Prasop district, Kratie province.
- Length and Width: The bridge measures 1,761 meters long and 13.5 meters wide, accommodating vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.
- Technical Specifications: It is supported by 36 piers and features a navigable section (for river traffic) measuring 100 meters in width and 15 meters in height.
- Funding and Construction: The project is financed through a concessional loan of approximately US$114 million from the Government of the Peopleโs Republic of China. It is being built by the Shanghai Construction Group (SCG) with technical oversight from Wanโan Guangzhou Technical Consultant.
The opening of the Cambodia-China Mekong Kratie Friendship Bridge will mark another significant infrastructure achievement, contributing to economic growth, trade, and tourism development in Cambodia’s northeastern region.
