Techo International Airport (KTI) is advancing its preparations for its official opening on September 9, 2025, following a successful maiden test flight. The historic trial, conducted on August 15, saw an Airbus A320 from the national airline Air Cambodia land smoothly on the airport’s 4-kilometer runway, a significant milestone in its operational readiness.
The initial test flight from Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) was a complete success, with both technical and operational procedures performing flawlessly. This achievement marks a crucial step in ensuring that KTI is fully equipped and prepared for its official launch.
In anticipation of its grand opening, the airport has scheduled additional trial flights with various airlines in early September. These continued test operations are designed to confirm the airport’s capacity to handle both domestic and international passenger traffic efficiently and safely.
Situated 19 kilometers from Phnom Penh, the new airport is a massive 2,600-hectare facility classified as a 4F airport. This prestigious classification means it can accommodate large wide-body aircraft, including the Airbus A380-800 and the Boeing 747-800, positioning it as a key hub for long-haul intercontinental flights. The first phase of the project represents a significant investment of USD 1.5 billion, underscoring its importance to Cambodia’s infrastructure and economic growth.
The official inauguration ceremony is set for October 20, 2025, and will be presided over by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. This event will mark the dawn of a new era for Cambodia’s aviation sector, significantly enhancing the nation’s global connectivity.
