Urgent Need for Safety and Essentials; UNICEF Calls for Peace and Donations for Affected Children
PHNOM PENH, Cambodia โ UNICEF is actively responding to the escalating humanitarian crisis along the Cambodia-Thailand border, where recent conflict has forced an estimated 130,000 peopleโincluding tens of thousands of childrenโto flee their homes.

As of December 10, 2025, UNICEF teams are on the ground, visiting displacement sites and delivering life-saving humanitarian assistance to children and their families.
I. Humanitarian Aid and Scale of Crisis
Immediate Relief Delivered by UNICEF Cambodia
According to UNICEF Cambodia, the organization is focusing on providing immediate necessities for the displaced population. Aid packages delivered include:
- Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Kits: Essential for preventing the spread of disease in overcrowded shelters.
- Education and Recreational Materials: Crucial for providing affected children with a sense of routine and normalcy in a traumatic situation.
Mass Displacement Across Six Provinces
The need for safety and basic essentials is described as “urgent,” with supplies currently underway to meet the rising demand.
Figures from the Ministry of National Defence confirm the massive scale of the displacement:
- Total Displaced: Approximately 130,000 people (more than 36,000 families).
- Affected Provinces: These families have sought refuge at safe centres across six Cambodian provinces: Oddar Meanchey, Preah Vihear, Banteay Meanchey, Pursat, Battambang, and Siem Reap.
- Cause: The displacement follows continued military attacks on Cambodian territory.
II. Call for Peace and Protection
UNICEF has issued a heartfelt appeal, emphasizing the profound impact of conflict on young lives.
