The double‑digit growth reflects the continued expansion of Cambodia’s cashew sector, which has become one of the Kingdom’s most important agricultural commodities for export.

Government Support Boosts Resilience

The Cashew Nut Association attributed the positive performance to proactive support measures introduced by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Commune‑level agricultural extension staff were deployed to work directly with farmers, helping them assess climate‑related risks and adapt farming practices to changing weather conditions.

This hands‑on approach has helped mitigate the impact of unpredictable rainfall and temperature fluctuations, which have increasingly affected crop yields across the region.

Cautious Optimism from Industry Leader

Despite the strong first‑quarter results, Mr. Silot Uon, President of the CAC, urged caution over the sector’s outlook.

“While the first‑quarter performance is encouraging, it remains too early to determine whether this positive trend will continue throughout the year, given ongoing climate uncertainties,” he said.

He added that sustained cooperation between government agencies, industry organisations, and farmers would be crucial to ensuring long‑term resilience and continued growth in Cambodia’s cashew sector.

Outlook

Cambodia aims to become a major global player in cashew processing and export. The government has previously set a target of processing 25 percent of raw cashew nuts domestically by 2027, up from current levels, to capture higher value from the value chain.
