Both ministers emphasized that the “Community with a Shared Future in the New Era” is not merely a diplomatic slogan but a robust framework for high-quality, high-standard cooperation.
Regional Stability and the Cambodia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership
A significant portion of the call was dedicated to the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, which has seen renewed tension in recent weeks. Minister Wang Yi expressed China’s deep concern over the violence and urged both nations to adhere to a ceasefire and return to peaceful dialogue.
The role of the Cambodia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in regional security includes:
- Constructive Mediation: Chinaโs commitment to acting as a “friendly neighbor” by supporting peaceful negotiations within the ASEAN framework.
- Security Cooperation: Continued coordination through the “Diamond Hexagon” framework, focusing on regional peace and the protection of shared development interests.
- Neutral Support: China reaffirmed its support for Cambodiaโs sovereignty while maintaining its long-standing principle of non-interference.
Advancing the “Community with a Shared Future”
The two leaders agreed that 2025, designated as the Cambodia-China Year of Tourism, serves as a catalyst for deeper people-to-people exchanges. They pledged to accelerate key infrastructure projects, including the Techo Funan Canal and the Industrial and Technological Corridor, which are pillars of the Cambodia-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
“No matter how the international situation changes, the iron-clad friendship remains the shared asset of our two peoples,” Minister Wang Yi noted, highlighting that China will continue to be Cambodia’s most reliable partner in national development.
