Cambodia 5G Launch: High-Speed Internet Starts Jan 1, 2026

PHNOM PENH – In a historic leap for the Kingdom’s digital landscape, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) has officially announced the commercial launch of 5G mobile services in Cambodia, effective from 00:01 AM on January 1, 2026.

Following the government’s declaration on December 5, 2025, the MPTC has collaborated with the nation’s three major operators—Cellcard (CamGSM), Metfone (Viettel Cambodia), and Smart Axiata—to deploy 5G infrastructure across strategic locations.

Initial Coverage Areas

Starting New Year’s Day, 5G services will be available in Phnom Penh and key areas across 14 provinces, including:

  • Siem Reap, Kandal, Svay Rieng, Kampong Speu, and Takeo.
  • Kampong Cham, Kampong Thom, Prey Veng, Kratie, and Kampong Chhnang.
  • Pursat, Preah Sihanouk, Stung Treng, and Kampot.

The MPTC confirmed that 5G coverage will continue to expand progressively to encompass all provinces nationwide.

Beyond “Fast Internet”: A Digital Infrastructure for the Future

The introduction of 5G is a cornerstone of the Pentagonal Strategy Phase 1 and the Cambodia Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021-2035. Key benefits include:

  • Ultra-High Speeds: Significantly faster than current 4G standards.
  • Massive Connectivity: Ability to connect a vast number of devices simultaneously.
  • Low Latency: Real-time response capabilities for advanced innovations.
  • Public Service Enhancement: Boosting the efficiency of digital government services.

“5G is not just about high-speed internet; it is the digital infrastructure for Cambodia’s future innovation and opportunities,” the Ministry emphasized.
